Baseball: Olivet falls to Albion, 9-5

ALBION, Mich. – The University of Olivet baseball team fell to Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) foe Albion College, 9-5, today at Frank Joranko Field.

- The Comets jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the second inning. A walk and two singles loaded the bases. Sophomore Will Myrick was hit by a pitch to bring home the first run. Senior Matthew Fennell hit a sacrifice fly to score the second run. Another walk re-filled the bases. Sophomore Braden Abbott roped a single to left field to plate the third run. Senior Gabriel Kirck grounded out to drive in the final run.
- The Britons had a two-out hit to score their first run in the fifth inning.
- In the sixth inning, Albion took advantage of three Olivet errors to plate four runs to go ahead 5-4.
- The Comets quickly tied the game when Abbott and Kirck hit back-to-back doubles in the top of the seventh inning.
- Albion answered with a run in the home half of the seventh frame before adding three more runs in the eighth to take a 9-5 lead.
- Olivet did not go down quietly in the ninth inning, as it put two runners on base.
- Olivet totaled 10 hits in the game.
- Abbott, Fennell, Kirck and freshman Jack Friesen each tallied two hits.
- Kirck drove in a pair of runs.
- Five different players scored a run.
- Freshman Bryan Carney started on the mound and allowed one run on five hits over five innings. He struck out five and did not walk a batter.
- Senior Keegan Kuha was tagged with the loss after giving up the final eight runs on six hits.
- Olivet has a weekend series against Hope College. The teams are scheduled for a nine-inning game Friday at Boeve Field in Holland, starting at 4 p.m., and a doubleheader Saturday at the Cutler Athletic Complex in Olivet, beginning at 1 p.m.
