KALAMAZOO, Mich. – The Olivet College baseball team lost to Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) leader Kalamazoo College, 14-4 and 20-4, today at Woodworth Field.

- The Comets scored the first run of the game in the top of first inning on an RBI-ground out by freshman Will Myrick. The Hornets answered with a run in the bottom half of the first before adding three runs in the second to go up 4-1.
- In the fourth inning, Kalamazoo had only one hit but scored seven runs on two Olivet errors. The Comets pushed across one run in the fifth and two runs in the sixth to close the gap to 11-4. Kalamazoo capped the scoring with a single tally in its half of the sixth and added two more runs in seventh to post the mercy-rule win.
- Olivet finished the game with six hits, including two by sophomore Blake Hawkins. One of his hits was a double.
- The Hornets totaled 14 hits, all singles. Leadoff batter Cooper Mills went 4-for-5 with three RBI. Ryar Rinehart had three hits to go along with three RBI. Thomas Sylvester picked-up the pitching win.
- Kalamazoo scored at least one run in each of the first four innings – five in the first, one in the second, seven in the third and two in the fourth – for a 15-0 lead.
- The Comets broke up the shutout with three runs in the sixth inning.
- The Hornets pushed across five runs in the last half of the sixth to stretch their lead to 20-3.
- Olivet plated its final run in the seventh, but it was not enough to prevent the early ending.
- For the game, the Comets recorded nine hits. Junior Logan O'Connor was 2-for-2 with an RBI and run scored. Seven other players each had one hit.
- For Kalamazoo, Mills and Rinehart combined to go 8-for-10. Both had four hits and three RBI. Rinehart scored four runs, while Mills crossed the plate three times. Jacob Davis threw the first five innings to earn the win.
- The Comets and Hornets are scheduled to finish the three-game series tomorrow with a nine-inning game at the Athletic Complex in Olivet, starting at 1 p.m.
