Baseball team falls to Albion, 8-2
OLIVET, Mich. – The Olivet College baseball team lost 8-2 to Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) rival Albion College this afternoon at the Cutler Athletic Complex.

OLIVET, Mich. – The Olivet College baseball team lost 8-2 to Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) rival Albion College this afternoon at the Cutler Athletic Complex.

- Records: Olivet 3-19 overall, 1-7 MIAA; Albion 5-19 overall, 2-6 MIAA
- The Britons put together a two-out rally to push across their first run in the top of third inning.
- Albion added to its lead in the third inning when Travis Weide hit a three-run home run.
- In the sixth inning, the Britons took advantage of a Comet error to score another run.
- Albion plated another run in its half of the seventh to take a 6-0 lead.
- The Comets used two singles and a walk to load the bases in their half of the seventh. The Britons got out of the jam with two strikeouts.
- Olivet scored a pair of runs in the eighth inning. Freshman Nate Droste and senior Sylas Woll were hit-by-pitches before junior Ben Helgevold lined a single into left field. Freshman Braden Abbott hit a two-out, two-run single to center field. A groundout ended the inning.
- Albion plated its final two runs in the top of ninth and retired the Comets in order in the bottom of the inning.
- Olivet was held to five total hits.
- Abbott and Droste each recorded two hits. One of Droste's hits was a double.
- Helgevold stole two bases to raise his season total to 17, which is tied for the seventh-most in a season in program history.
- Junior Andrew Vendzuh started on the mound and threw four innings to be charged with the loss. He gave up four runs on five hits.
- Freshman Tyson Carter and Jacob Jasin, and sophomore Niko Ponos combined to toss five innings of relief.
- Cole Giesige earned the pitching win after throwing seven shutout innings. He struck out 17 batters.
- Teddy Brimblecombe and Ray Keane each threw an inning of relief, striking out five total batters.
- At the plate, Albion had eight hits.
- Austyn Stephens was 2-for-4 with three runs scored.
- The Comets welcome Hope College to the Cutler Athletic Complex Friday for the first game of a MIAA series. First pitch is at 4 p.m.
