Baseball team swept by Trine in MIAA-opening doubleheader
ANGOLA, Ind. – The Olivet College baseball team started Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) play by getting swept by Trine (Ind.) University, 5-0 and 7-3, in a doubleheader this afternoon at Jannen Field.

ANGOLA, Ind. – The Olivet College baseball team started Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) play by getting swept by Trine (Ind.) University, 5-0 and 7-3, in a doubleheader this afternoon at Jannen Field.
- Final Scores: Trine 5, Olivet 0; Trine 7, Olivet 3
- Location: Jannen Field; Angola, Indiana
- Records: Olivet 2-14 overall, 0-2 MIAA; Trine 11-9 overall, 2-0 MIAA
- The Thunder plated two unearned runs in the bottom of first inning. Trine added single tallies in the fourth, seventh and eighth innings.
- Olivet had scoring chances in the seventh and eighth inning, with runners on first and second. The Thunder got out of the seventh-inning jam with a double play and eighth with a called third strike.
- For the game, the Comets were held to six hits. Each hit was a single by six different players. Freshman Bryan Carney suffered the pitching loss, as he allowed four runs (one earned) on eight hits over the first seven innings.
- Olivet took a 1-0 lead with a run in the first inning. Freshman Will Myrick led off with a single up the middle and hustled around the bases to score on junior Gabriel Kirck's double to left-center field.
- The Thunder gained a 2-0 lead after pushing across a pair of runs in the home half of the third inning.
- Trine used a two-out rally to score two runs in the fifth and put the game out of reach with two more runs in the sixth. The Thunder added their final run in the seventh.
- Olivet cut its deficit down to four, 7-3, in the eighth inning when freshman Will Myrick hit a two-run, inside-the-park home run.
- Myrick finished the game with two hits, two runs scored and two RBI. Three other players tallied one hit apiece. Freshman JB Stroh was tagged with the pitching loss after yielding four runs (three earned) on seven hits and four walks over the first five innings.
- Olivet and Trine complete the three-game MIAA series tomorrow with a nine-inning game at the Cutler Athletic Complex, starting at 4 p.m.
