Baseball team suffers 28-8 loss to Adrian
OLIVET, Mich. – The Olivet College baseball team was tripped up by defending Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) champion Adrian College, 28-8, this afternoon inside the Cutler Athletic Complex.

OLIVET, Mich. – The Olivet College baseball team was tripped up by defending Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) champion Adrian College, 28-8, this afternoon inside the Cutler Athletic Complex.

Records: Olivet 7-20 overall, 2-11 MIAA; Adrian 15-14 overall, 7-6 MIAA
- The Bulldogs sent all nine batters to the plate and scored five runs in the first inning.
- The Comets answered with two runs in the home half of the first on an RBI-double by sophomore Gabriel Kirck and RBI-single by senior Logan Sella.
- Adrian came back with four runs in the second and one run in the third to go up 10-2.
- Senior Matt Hewitt hit an RBI-double and later scored on a throwing error by the catcher in the Olivet's half of the third inning.
- The Bulldogs pushed across six runs in both the fourth and fifth innings to make the score 22-4.
- The Comets got four runs back in their part of the fifth inning on an RBI-single by senior Ben Compton and a three-run home run by Hewitt.
- After neither team scored in the sixth, Adrian ended the scoring with a six spot in the seventh to end the game early due to the 10-run mercy rule.
- At the plate, the Comets totaled 13 hits.
- Hewitt reached safely in each of his four plate apperances. He was a triple shy of hitting for the cycle and walked once. He drove in a team-leading four runs and cross the plate twice.
- Kirck also had three hits, including two doubles, and scored a team-best three runs.
- Senior Matt Fisher recorded two hits.
- Six pitchers made an appearance on the mound. Senior Brendan Redding was credited with the loss, as he gave up the first nine runs on nine hits over the first two innings.
- Adrian finished the game with 23 hits (eight doubles, one triple, two home runs, 12 singles)
- Dylan Johnson went 4-for-5 with four RBI and four runs.
- Don Goodes and Gus Weaks each had three hits.
- Recording two hits were AJ Miranda, Ryan Davis, Aaron Valentine and Ty Peck.
- Miranda and Easton Rogers drove in three runs apiece.
- Goodes, Peck and Weaks scored three times each.
- Aaron Giorno tossed the first five innings to earn the win. He gave up the eight runs on 11 hits over the first five innings.
- Daniel Gutierrez pitched two scoreless innings of relief.
- Olivet and Adrian finish the three-game MIAA series tomorrow with a doubleheader at Nicolay Field in Adrian. First pitch from game one is tentatively scheduled for 12 p.m.
