Redding’s pitching performance helps baseball team beat Calvin, 5-2
GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – Senior Brendan Redding’s strong pitching performance lifted the Olivet College baseball team to a 5-2 win over Calvin University in a Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) contest this afternoon at the CU Baseball Field.

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – Senior Brendan Redding's strong pitching performance lifted the Olivet College baseball team to a 5-2 win over Calvin University in a Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) contest this afternoon at the CU Baseball Field.

Records: Olivet 6-13 overall, 1-4 MIAA; Calvin 8-10 overall, 1-3 MIAA
- The Comets plated two runs in the first inning.
- Olivet added another run in the fourth when sophomore Gabriel Kirck hit a solo home run.
- In the sixth, the Comets scored two runs on an error by the Knight shortstop.
- The Knights pushed across one run in the seventh to make the score 5-1.
- Calvin loaded the bases in the ninth inning. One run scored on a passed ball before a flyout ended the game.
- Redding scattered nine hits over eight and one-third innings to earn the win.
- Senior Ryan Rivard got the final two outs to pick-up the save.
- At the plate, Kirck reached base safely in his four plate appearances, as he had two singles, one homer and one walk. Kirck drove in two runs.
- Senior Logan Sella tallied two hits.
- Ryan Peterson, Matt Raymond and Carson Warners each had two hits.
- Raymond scored two runs.
- Zach Thor was charged with the pitching loss after giving up all five runs (three earned) on seven hits over six innings.
- Olivet and Calvin return to the CU Baseball Field Monday, April 11, to complete the three-game series. The first of two games will get started at 1 p.m.
