FLORENCE, Ky. – The Olivet College baseball team lost a heartbreaking 7-6 game to Mount St. Joseph (Ohio) University this afternoon at UC Health Stadium.

Records: Olivet 5-6 overall, Mount St. Joseph 6-7 overall
- The Comets tallied single runs in the second, third and fifth innings for a 3-0 lead.
- The Lions got two runs back in the bottom half of the fifth inning.
- Olivet extended its lead back to three runs, 5-2, in the eighth inning when sophomore Gabriel Kirck blasted a 3-2 pitch over the right field fence.
- Mount St. Joseph answered with a pair of runs in the last half of the eighth.
- In the top half of the ninth, the Comets plated their final run on an RBI-double by senior Logan Sella.
- The bottom half of the ninth saw Olivet record two quick outs. The Lions then had a single and a double to put two runners on base. The next batter hit a walk-off three-run home run.
- Olivet totaled 11 hits in the game.
- Kirck had two hits (home run and double), scored two runs and drove in two runs.
- From the leadoff spot in the lineup, senior Matt Fisher went 2-for-5 with a run.
- Senior Ben Compton hit two singles.
- Senior Brendan Redding started on the mound and allowed four runs (two earned) on 11 hits over seven innings.
- Senior Hunter Henson gave up the walk-off home run to be tagged with the loss.
- The Lions recorded 14 hits.
- Ryan Murray was 3-for-4, with two home runs and four RBI.
- Three other players – Jake Lawson, Tyler Herbers and Austin Price – each collected two hits.
- Mason Jewell earned the pitching win in relief of starter Jacob Hughes. Jewell pitched the final inning and two-thirds, giving up the one run on three hits.
- The teams play a doubleheader tomorrow, starting at 12 p.m.
