Baseball team loses heartbreaker at Earlham, 10-9
RICHMOND, Ind. – The Olivet College baseball team let a three-run slip away in the ninth inning, as Earlham (Ind.) College walked-off with a 10-9 win in the final game of a weekend series at Randal R. Sadler Stadium.

RICHMOND, Ind. – The Olivet College baseball team let a three-run slip away in the ninth inning, as Earlham (Ind.) College walked-off with a 10-9 win in the final game of a weekend series at Randal R. Sadler Stadium.

- The Comets grabbed a 1-0 lead with a single tally in the second inning.
- The Quakers used a two-out rally to take a 3-1 lead in the third inning. Highlighting the inning was a two-run triple off the bat of Maxwell Fries.
- Olivet seized a 7-3 lead with a six-run fourth inning.
- Earlham closed the gap to a single run with three runs in its half of the fourth.
- There was no more scoring until the eighth inning when the Comets added two insurance runs to grow their lead to 9-6.
- The Quakers put together a ninth-inning rally to score four runs and earn the walk-off victory.
- Eight of the nine Olivet starters had at least one hit.
- Senior Matt Hewitt, senior Logan Sella, sophomore Gabriel Kirck and junior James Harris each had two hits. Sella and Harris had a single and double, Hewitt had a single and a triple, and both of Kirck's hits were singles.
- Other extra-base hits were doubles for junior Sylas Woll, senior Ben Compton and senior Trevor Savage.
- Compton and Harris drove in three runs apiece.
- Kirck scored two runs.
- On the mound, senior Max Daust started and was credited with five innings pitched. He allowed six runs (four earned) on seven hits.
- Senior Ryan Rivard tossed three innings of relief and surrendered a run on two hits. He struck out three.
- Senior Dayton Regier gave up the ninth inning runs to suffer the pitching loss.
- Fries hit two triples to go along with a single, four RBI and two runs.
- Nathan Lancianse also had two hits and two RBI.
- Evan Griswold was the last of six pitchers to make an appearance to earn the win.
- Olivet travels to Delaware, Ohio, Wednesday afternoon for a nine-inning game against Ohio Wesleyan University. First pitch from Littick Field is scheduled for 3 p.m.
