GREENSBORO, N.C. – The Olivet College baseball program has received the American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA) Team Academic Excellence Award for the 2020-21 academic year. It is believed to be the first time in school history the Comets have earned this honor.
To be honored, teams had to meet the following criteria:
- Must be a high school or college team
- Head coach must be a current ABCA member
- Team must have a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.00 on a 4.0 scale during the 2020-21 academic year
"This is an incredible accomplishment for our young men," said Olivet head baseball coach Shelby Dixon. "The 2020-21 academic year was unlike any other and presented very unique challenges and I could not be more proud of how our student-athletes responded. Education and graduation can open so many doors and opportunities, so to see our guys push themselves to this level academically is amazing to watch."
Over 200 high school programs and more than 380 collegiate programs were recognized with this year's award. Olivet was one of six Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association schools to be recognized.
