Olivet College’s Compton named All-MIAA Second Team
FREELAND, Mich. Olivet College junior second baseman Ben Compton has earned 2021 All-Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) Second Team honors for baseball.
FREELAND, Mich. Olivet College junior second baseman Ben Compton has earned 2021 All-Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) Second Team honors for baseball.
In the 16-game MIAA game, Compton had a .327 batting average, going for 17-for-52 at the plate. He had a double and two home runs for a .462 slugging percentage. Compton had 12 runs scored and 12 RBI, and drew five walks for a .400 on-base percentage.
"We are very proud and lucky to have Ben in our program," said Olivet head coach Shelby Dixon. "He has battled and fought through a number of setbacks during his career but he has stayed the course. I'm excited to watch him continue to grow as a person, student and player moving forward. The sky is the limit for Ben and if he makes some improvements and challenges himself, he will get there."
For the entire 28-game schedule, Compton started every game for the Comets and posted a .272 batting average. Of his 25 hits, four were doubles and two were home runs for a .380 slugging percentage. Compton scored 15 runs and drove in a team-best 17 runs. His best game was a 3-for-4 effort with three runs scored and four RBI in the first game of a doubleheader at Calvin University.
Compton and the Comets travel to play Adrian College in the first round of the 2021 MIAA Tournament Wednesday afternoon at 4 p.m.
