OLIVET, Mich. – The Olivet College baseball team opened a four-game Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) series by losing both games of the doubleheader, 25-8 and 9-1, to Kalamazoo College today at the Cutler Athletic Complex.

OLIVET, Mich. – The Olivet College baseball team opened a four-game Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) series by losing both games of the doubleheader, 25-8 and 9-1, to Kalamazoo College today at the Cutler Athletic Complex.

- The Hornets sent 12 batters to the plate and scored nine runs in the first inning.
- Olivet pushed across a run in the home half of the first on an RBI-single by freshman Matthew Fennell.
- Kalamazoo added to its lead with five runs in the second and one run in the third to go up 15-1.
- The Comets plated three runs in the third and fourth innings to trim their deficit to 15-7.
- The Hornets had only one hit but scored five runs in the fifth.
- A bases-loaded walk brought in an Olivet run in the sixth to make the score 20-8.
- Kalamazoo capped its scoring with a five-run seventh inning.
- Olivet totaled 12 hits, including a 3-for-3 effort by junior Ben Compton.
- Compton drove in three runs.
- Fennell along with junior Matt Hewitt, senior Matt Fisher and sophomore Tyler Campbell each had a two-hit game.
- One of Fisher's hits was a home run.
- Senior Max Daust lasted only the first inning to be charged with the pitching loss.
- Three relief pitchers each threw two innings.
- At the plate, Harrison Poeszat went 4-for-5 with three runs and five RBI.
- Lukas Bolton, Spencer Baldwin and Ryan Morgan had two hits apiece.
- Ben Chosid also drove in five runs.
- On the mound, Jack Brockhaus earned the win. He tossed four innings, allowing seven runs (four earned) on nine hits.
- Two Comets reached base on walks in the first inning. Back-to-back wild pitches allowed Compton to cross the plate.
