KALAMAZOO, Mich. – The Olivet College baseball team was defeated by Kalamazoo College, 8-6 and 7-2, in a non-conference doubleheader this afternoon at Woodworth Field.

KALAMAZOO, Mich. – The Olivet College baseball team was defeated by Kalamazoo College, 8-6 and 7-2, in a non-conference doubleheader this afternoon at Woodworth Field.

- The Hornets led 4-0 after scoring three runs in the first inning and one more run in the second inning.
- The Comets trimmed their deficit in half with a two-run fourth inning. After freshman Matthew Fennell walked, freshman Logan O'Connor brought him home with an RBI-triple to the right-center field gap. O'Connor then scored on an RBI-single by senior Matt Fisher.
- Kalamazoo answered with two runs in the bottom half of the fourth to extend its lead back to four runs, 6-2.
- Olivet squandered an opportunity to score runs, as it had the bases loaded with one out in the fifth but failed to push across any runs.
- After the Hornets added another run in the last part of the fifth inning, the Comets plated four unearned runs in the top of the sixth to make the score 7-6.
- Kalamazoo came back to score an insurance run in its half of the sixth.
- Olivet brought the go-ahead run to the plate but did not score any runs in the seventh.
- Sophomore James Harris reached base safely in four of his five plate appearances – once on a hit, twice on a walk and once on a hit by pitch.
- Fisher went 3-for-5 with two singles and a double.
- O'Connor had two hits and drove in two runs.
- Senior Ryan Rivard suffered the pitching loss. He started on the mound and gave up four runs (three earned) on three hits over two innings.
- Four relievers each tossed an inning, and combined to allow four runs (two earned) on six hits.
- Three players recorded a multi-hit game.
- Doug Propson hit a triple and single, while driving in two runs.
- Blake Bean and Ben Chosid each had two hits.
- Chosid scored two runs.
- Alex Bowden was the winning pitcher, and Jack Brockhaus picked-up the save.
- The Hornets used a walk, ground out and throwing error to score a run in the first inning.
- Kalamazoo stretched its lead to 6-0 after scoring another run in the third and four runs in the fifth inning.
- The Comets scored their runs in the sixth inning on an RBI-double by sophomore Sylas Woll and a double steal, with Woll swiping home.
- The Hornets capped their scoring with a single tally in the home half of the sixth.
- Olivet was held to just two hits, the aforementioned double by Woll in the sixth and single by sophomore Tyler Campbell in the seventh.
- Four pitchers made an appearance on the mound. Freshman Keegan Kuha gave up the first inning run to be charged with the loss.
- Lukas Bolton and Cooper Mills each had two hits.
- Chase Coselman drove in a pair of runs.
- Propson scored a team-best three runs.
- On the mound, Adam Dorstewitz was the winning pitcher after throwing three hitless innings to start the game.
- Olivet hosts the Hornets Saturday for the first two games of a MIAA series, starting at 1 p.m.
