Baseball team opens 2020 season with 12-9 loss at Earlham
RICHMOND, Ind. – A valiant comeback came up short, as the Olivet College baseball team fell to Earlham (Ind.) College, 12-9, this afternoon in its season-opener at Randal R. Sadler Stadium. The teams will complete the three-game series tomorrow with a doubleheader, starting at 11 a.m.

- The Quakers plated five runs in both the first and second innings to take a 10-0 lead.
- The Comets got one run back in the fourth inning when senior Riley Bennett hit a double, advanced to third on a ground out and came around to score on an infield single by senior Brandan Settles.
- Earlham answered with a run in the fifth inning.
- Both teams scored a run in the sixth inning to make the score 12-2.
- Olivet pushed across one run in the seventh inning, four runs in the eighth inning and two runs in the ninth inning.
- Olivet totaled 13 hits.
- Settles was 4-for-5 with two runs, three RBI and two stolen bases.
- Senior Aaron Gillespie and sophomore Matt Hewitt each had two hits.
- Sophomore Hunter Henson started on the mound and lasted only an inning and one-third to be charged with the loss.
- Freshman Ty Metzger threw five and two-thirds innings of relief, allowing two runs on six hits.
- Earlham had 12 hits.
- Jeordon Kuderer was 3-for-3 with five RBI.
- Isaiah Shake recorded two hits and three runs scored.
- Austin Hatfield also tallied two hits.
- Kyle Gorman earned the pitching win after throwing the first six innings. He gave up two runs on eight hits, and struck out seven batters.
- Following tomorrow's games, the Comets will head to Florida on Wednesday to start its spring break trip. Olivet will play five games in four days at the Gene Cusic Classic in Fort Myers, and four games in four days at the RussMatt Invitational in Auburndale.
