Baseball team finishes Spring Break trip with 16-3 win over Minn.-Morris
The Olivet College baseball team finished its Spring Break trip with a 16-3 win over University of Minnesota-Morris this afternoon at the RussMatt Invitational and at the Lake Myrtle Sports Complex in Auburndale, Florida.

AUBURNDALE, Fla. – The Olivet College baseball team finished its Spring Break trip with a 16-3 win over University of Minnesota-Morris this afternoon at the RussMatt Invitational and at the Lake Myrtle Sports Complex in Auburndale, Florida.

Records: Olivet 4-6 overall, Minn.-Morris 1-7 overall
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Comets used two big innings to score all of their runs. Olivet first sent 10 batters to the plate and scored five runs in the second inning. Two innings later, 13 Comets batted and plated eight runs on six hits.
- The Comets added single tallies in the fifth, sixth and seventh innings to end the game early because of the 10-run mercy rule.
FOR THE COMETS
- Olivet had a season-high 21 hits in the victory.
- Junior Dugan Dieselberg went 4-for-5, drove in two runs and scored two runs.
- Freshman Ben Compton was 3-for-3, while scoring four runs and collecting five RBI. Two of hits were doubles.
- Sophomore Aaron Gillespie helped his own cause at the plate by going 3-for-4 with a double and two runs scored.
- Five other players had two hits apiece.
- Gillespie pitched six innings and allowed three runs on seven hits. He struck out six batters and walked one.
- Senior Austin Hickey threw a scoreless inning of relief.
FOR THE COUGARS
- Mitch Baumann finished with two of the 10 Minn.-Morris hits.
- Brady Jergenson drove in two of the three runs.
- Five pitchers combined to throw the seven innings. Jordan Steffer allowed the first five runs on five hits to be tagged with the loss.
UP NEXT
- The Comets are now off until they open Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) next Saturday and Sunday, March 24-25, against Albion College. The first two games will be played at Albion's Frank Joranko Field, and the second two games at the Cutler Athletic Complex in Olivet. First pitch both days is slated for 1 p.m.
