Gillespie earns All-MIAA baseball honors
Olivet College freshman pitcher/outfielder Aaron Gillespie has earned 2017 All-MIAA second-team honors for baseball. All-MIAA honors are based on a player’s performance during the 28-game league schedule.
FREELAND, Mich. – Olivet College freshman pitcher/outfielder Aaron Gillespie has earned 2017 All-Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) second-team honors for baseball. All-MIAA honors are based on a player's performance during the 28-game league schedule.
Gillespie made a start on the mound against each of the MIAA opponents. He recorded a 3.09 ERA in 43.2 innings, picking-up wins in his final two starts against Calvin College and Alma College. The win versus Alma was a 1-0 seven-hitter, complete game shutout. At the plate, Gillespie posted a .394 batting average to go along with 39 hits, 17 runs scored, 18 RBI, 11 doubles, one triple and one home run and .556 slugging percentage.
For Olivet's entire 40-game schedule, Gillespie started 10 games on the mound and threw five complete games for 58 total innings. His 4.19 ERA and 34 strikeouts topped the team. At the plate, Gillespie had a team-leading .411 batting average, 14 doubles, 29 RBI and .589 slugging percentage. The 14 doubles ties the single-season school record, while the .411 batting average ranks seventh.
