FREELAND, Mich. – Olivet College freshman Aaron Gillespie has been named the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) Baseball Pitcher of the Week.
Gillespie threw a complete game, seven-hit shutout in the Comets' 1-0 win over Alma College May 6 at Klenk Park in Alma. He struck out five batters and did not walk a batter, while throwing 93 pitches. Gillespie was able to escape a one-out, bases-loaded jam in the bottom of seventh to preserve the win and shutout. The second out was recorded at the plate and the final out was a ground out to third base.
"Aaron has been not only one of the MIAA's best players, but also one of the most consistent, both in the outfield and on the mound," said Olivet head coach Andy Merchant. "As a freshman, he went head-to-head with the league's best and most experienced arms. Aaron has also worked his way into the Olivet record book in his first year."
