Baseball team loses twice to Trine, 12-0 and 4-1
The Olivet College baseball team lost both games to Trine (Ind.) University, 12-0 and 4-1, in a Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) doubleheader today at the Cutler Athletic Complex in Olivet.

OLIVET, Mich. – The Olivet College baseball team lost both games to Trine (Ind.) University, 12-0 and 4-1, in a Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) doubleheader today at the Cutler Athletic Complex in Olivet.

HOW IT HAPPENED (GAME ONE)
- The Thunder scored the only run they would need in the first inning when Jacob Heller hit a home run to lead off the game.
- Trine sent 13 batters to the plate and scored seven runs in the second inning to chase Olivet starting pitcher Aiden Holliday out of the game.
- The Thunder capped the scoring with three runs in the third and one final run in the sixth.
FOR THE COMETS
- Olivet was held to five hits, including two for junior catcher Connor Murney.
- Holliday was charged with the pitching loss after giving up eight runs (seven earned) on seven hits in an inning and one-third.
- Freshman Brett Tyndall got the final two outs in the second inning.
- Senior Andrew Dayfield threw four innings of relief and allowed one run on four hits, while striking out four.
- Junior Sam Knoechel tossed a scoreless inning.
FOR THE THUNDER
- Trine totaled 14 hits in the win.
- Heller went 3-for-4 with three runs scored and three RBI.
- Jake LaBounty, Nick Ricci, Kevin O'Malley and Ben Pritchett each had two hits.
- Colton Conn drove in three runs.
- Ben Wheaton threw the complete game, five-hitter. He did not walk a batter and struck out three.
HOW IT HAPPENED (GAME TWO)
- The Thunder manufactured a pair of runs in the top half of the fourth inning.
- Olivet got one back run back in the home half of the fourth. Freshman Aaron Gillespie reached on an infield single, stole second base, went to third on a groundout and scored on a throwing error by the pitcher off freshman Matt Rehfeldt's batted ball.
- The Comets loaded the bases in the fifth but failed to score any runs.
- In the visitor's half of the eighth, Trine scored twice. A wild pitch with the bases loaded brought home the first run. After an intentional walk to re-load the bases, the next batter was hit by a pitch to plate the second run.
- Olivet brought the tying run to the plate and left two runners stranded in scoring position in the bottom half of the eighth.
FOR THE COMETS
- Gillespie finished with two of Olivet's four hits.
- Senior Brady Johnson made his first start of the season on the mound, and yielded four runs on six hits in seven and one-third innings. He struck four.
- Junior Joseph Crosby finished the game in relief and allowed just one hit, while striking out two batters.
FOR THE THUNDER
- Trine had seven hits, all singles by seven different players.
- Jake Roddy earned the pitching win, and Jacob Stauffer picked-up the save.
