FORT MYERS, Fla. – The Olivet College baseball team lost 14-6 to North Park (Ill.) University on a sun-drenched day at the Gene Cusic Classic in Fort Myers, Fla.
Batting as the home team, the Vikings scored at least one run in seven of the eight frames. Olivet did not get on the scoreboard until the sixth inning when senior Dylan Betcher (Lansing/Everett) came around to score when junior Tom Kort (New Hudson/South Lyon) beat out the throw to first on a bases-loaded fielder's choice to the second baseman.
The Comets plated two runs in the eighth inning on RBI-singles by freshman Andrew Dayfield (Brownstown/Woodhaven) and junior Beau Langs (Climax/Climax-Scotts). The Comets took advantage of four North Park errors to score their final three runs in the ninth inning.
For the game, Olivet had only five hits, with Dayfield and junior Nikolai Jump (Williamston) each having two. Sophomore David Hernandez (Lansing/Eastern) suffered the pitching loss, giving up five runs (four earned) on five hits over three and one-third innings.
