Baseball team swept at MIAA leader Adrian, 11-3 and 17-4
The Olivet College baseball team was swept by Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) leader Adrian College today at Nicolay Field. The Bulldogs won by scores of 11-3 and 17-4.

ADRIAN, Mich. – The Olivet College baseball team was swept by Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) leader Adrian College today at Nicolay Field. The Bulldogs won by scores of 11-3 and 17-4.
In the opener, Adrian plated three runs in the first inning and one run in the second inning for a 4-0 lead. Olivet got one run back in the top half of the third frame with an unearned run. The Bulldogs came right back with three runs in their half of the third.
The Comets scored two runs in the sixth inning, but they could not draw any closer. Adrian put the game out of reach with four runs in the bottom half of the sixth and retired Olivet in order in the seventh.
In the loss, the Comets had just five hits. Sophomores Joey Myers, Peter Panos and Drew Thompson and junior Jonny Zawacki each had a single, while senior Andrew Brawley hit a double. Myers and Thompson drove in the runs, while Brawley, sophomore Beau Langs and senior Randy Young scored them. Sophomore Jensen Aubry started on the mound, surrendering four earned runs on three hits in two innings. Three relievers, freshman Jarred Scheese, sophomore Collin McCririe and junior Joel Peters, combined to give up two earned runs on six hits over the final three innings.
In the game two, Adrian scored at least one run in every inning, including an eight-run outburst in the first inning. Olivet pushed across one run in the third inning, added two more runs in the fifth and scored its final run in the sixth.
For the game, the Comets out-hit the Bulldogs, 10-8. The difference in the game was four Adrian pitchers combined to walk only three batters, while five Olivet pitchers walked 13 batters. Sophomore Tom Kort went 3-for-3 at the plate with one double and two runs scored. Zawacki collected two hits, one RBI and one run scored. Five others each had one hit, with the only other extra base hit being a pinch-hit double by freshman Tyler Parish.
Freshman Mitch Galloway started on the mound and lasted only two-thirds of an inning. He allowed seven runs on two hits and four walks.
The Comets will take a break from MIAA play Tuesday afternoon when they host Rochester College for a nine-inning, non-conference game at 3 p.m. Olivet's final four MIAA games will be against Kalamazoo College. The first two games are in Kalamazoo Friday afternoon at Hyames Field, starting at 2 p.m. The final two games are Saturday in Olivet, beginning at 1 p.m.
