Baseball team loses twice to Adrian, 12-1 and 6-2
The Olivet College baseball team dropped both games of a doubleheader to defending MIAA champion Adrian College this afternoon at the Cutler Athletic Complex in Olivet. The Bulldogs won the first game, 12-1, and then plated four runs in the sixth inning to win the second game, 6-2.

OLIVET, Mich. – The Olivet College baseball team dropped both games of a doubleheader to defending Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) champion Adrian College this afternoon at the Cutler Athletic Complex in Olivet. The Bulldogs won the first game, 12-1, and then plated four runs in the sixth inning to win the second game, 6-2.
Adrian scored twice in the third inning to take an early 2-0 lead in game one. The Comets dented the scoreboard for their only run in their half of the third. After drawing a one-out walk, sophomore Beau Langs went to second on a single by junior Jonny Zawacki and scored on a single by senior Randy Young.
The Bulldogs answered with two runs in the fourth inning for a 4-1 lead. Adrian then 11 batters to the plate and scored eight runs in the seventh.
Olivet recorded seven hits in the game, with Zawacki collecting two. Five others each had one. Senior Kyle Fisher was tagged with the loss, as he allowed 11 earned runs on 13 hits.
In the nightcap, the Comets used a two-out rally to score one run in the first inning. Adrian took the lead back with a pair of runs in the top half of the second. Olivet tied the game at 2-2 in the fourth inning. With the bases loaded, sophomore Drew Thompson hit a sacrifice fly to score Young.
The Bulldogs plated four runs on four hits in the sixth inning. The Comets went down 1-2-3 in the sixth and seventh innings.
In the loss, Olivet had five hits. Young and senior Andrew Brawley each went 2-for-3, while Young scored two runs. Freshman Colin Boak was the losing pitcher, as he gave up five earned runs on seven hits in five and one-third innings.
The two teams will complete the four-game MIAA series tomorrow with a doubleheader at Adrian's Nicolay Field. Game time is 1 p.m.
