Baseball team loses to Davenport, 10-1
The Olivet College baseball team lost 10-1 to Davenport University in a nine-inning, non-conference game tonight under the lights at the Farmers Insurance Athletic Complex in Caledonia.
CALEDONIA, Mich. – The Olivet College baseball team lost 10-1 to Davenport University in a nine-inning, non-conference game tonight under the lights at the Farmers Insurance Athletic Complex in Caledonia.
Davenport took a 1-0 lead with a run in the last half of the first inning. The Comets came back and tied the game in the third inning. Junior Jonny Zawacki walked, went to third on a single by senior Randy Young and crossed the dish on a sacrifice fly by senior Andrew Brawley. The Panthers ended the game by scoring nine unanswered runs, including six in the sixth inning.
Olivet finished the game with only seven hits, led by two each from Young and Zawacki. Freshman Stephen Botti threw the first two innings and allowed one run on three. Sophomore Jensen Aubry gave up the go-ahead runs on four hits to be charged with the loss.
The Comets will now prepare for a busy weekend of games. Tomorrow, Olivet travels to play a doubleheader at Trine (Ind.) University, starting at 2 p.m. The Comets then play Adrian College for a four-game MIAA series. The first two games are Saturday at the Cutler Athletic Complex in Olivet, and the final two games are Sunday afternoon at Nicolay Field in Adrian. Both doubleheaders start at 1 p.m.
