Fisher’s gem in game two helps baseball team split twinbill at Alma
The Olivet College baseball team split a twinbill with Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) rival Alma College today at Klenk Park in Alma. Despite having only three hits, Alma won the first game, 4-3. Backed by a complete game, two-hitter by senior Kyle Fisher, the Comets salvaged the split by winning game two, 4-1.

ALMA, Mich. – The Olivet College baseball team split a twinbill with Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) rival Alma College today at Klenk Park in Alma. Despite having only three hits, Alma won the first game, 4-3. Backed by a complete game, two-hitter by senior Kyle Fisher, the Comets salvaged the split by winning game two, 4-1.
In game one, Alma scored twice in the last half of the third on a two-run triple. Olivet quickly tied the game at 2-2 after senior Andrew Brawley hit a two-run home run. The score remained 2-2 until the fifth inning when the Comets grabbed a 3-2 lead on a RBI-groundout by sophomore Drew Thompson to score Brawley. The Scots needed only one hit to re-gain a 4-2 lead with a pair of runs in their half of the fifth. Olivet went down 1-2-3 in both the sixth and seventh innings.
The Comets recorded only four hits in the loss, including two for Brawley. He also scored twice and drove in two. On the mound, freshman lefty Colin Boak was the losing pitcher, as he gave up three earned runs on three hits in the first four and two-thirds innings. Sophomore Jensen Aubry tossed an inning and one-third innings of hitless relief.
In game two, Olivet took a 1-0 lead in the third inning when junior Joel Peters singled, stole second base and scored on a single by sophomore Beau Langs. After the Scots knotted the score at 1-1 in the fourth, the Comets plated the go-ahead runs in the sixth and added an insurance run in the seventh. Alma brought the tying run to the dish in the seventh but an out at second base ended the game.
Olivet finished the game with six hits, one each for Brawley, Langs, Peters, sophomore Tom Kort, senior Randy Young and junior Jonny Zawacki. The lone extra base hit was a double by Zawacki. Fisher struck out three batters and allowed the one run on two hits in his seven innings.
The Comets return to the field Thursday night when they travel to play Davenport University at 7 p.m.
NOTE: Fisher has given up only one earned run on just five hits in his last two starts on the mound. Both were complete game wins. These performances lowered his ERA to 2.97.
