Baseball team defeated by Bethel, 7-5
The Olivet College baseball team was defeated by Bethel (Minn.) University, 7-5, this afternoon at the Gene Cusic Classic and inside the Player Development Complex in Fort Myers, Fla.
FORT MYERS, Fla. – The Olivet College baseball team was defeated by Bethel (Minn.) University, 7-5, this afternoon at the Gene Cusic Classic and inside the Player Development Complex in Fort Myers, Fla.
After two Comets crossed the plate in the top half of the first inning, Bethel answered with a run in the bottom half of the inning. Olivet made the score 4-1 with a pair of runs in the second inning. The Royals responded with four runs in their half of the second and another run in the third to take a 6-4 lead.
The Comets got one run back with an unearned tally in the fifth frame. Bethel pushed across an insurance run in the home half of the fifth inning. Olivet left the bases loaded in the eighth and had the tying run on base in the ninth.
At the dish, sophomore leadoff hitter Beau Langs (Climax/Climax-Scotts) was 3-for-4, as well as one run scored, one stolen base and two RBI. Senior Andrew Brawley (Niles) and sophomore Joey Myers (Holt) both collected two hits. Senior Jay Magro (Bridgman) was the losing pitcher, as he allowed all seven runs on nine hits. Three relievers, sophomore Collin McCririe (Brighton), freshman Ryan Roeske (Warren/De La Salle) and sophomore Jensen Aubry (Grayling), combined to allow only two hits in four innings.
The Comets will play Mitchell (Conn.) College tomorrow morning at 10 a.m.
