OLIVET, Mich. – The Olivet College baseball team was swept by Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) leader Adrian College, 9-0 and 11-1 at the Cutler Athletic Complex in Olivet.
In the opener, the Bulldogs scored three runs in the first inning, one each in the second and third innings, three in the fourth and one in the fifth inning. Adrian pitcher Jason Fryman allowed just two Olivet hits and did not allow a runner to reach third base.
On the mound, senior Brad Beisiegel (Royal Oak) was charged with the loss. He lasted only three innings and gave up seven runs on 11 hits.
In the nightcap, the Bulldogs led 3-0 after three innings. Olivet broke a 27 scoreless inning drought with a run in the fifth inning. Freshman Joel Peters (Auburn Hills/Avondale) reached first base on a fielder's choice, stole second and scored on a single to the right-center gap by senior Braydon LaFramboise (Flushing/Mt. Morris). Adrian put the game out of reach three runs in the sixth and five in the seventh.
The Comets were held to five hits, all singles by five different players. Junior Lee Cline (Mt. Morris) suffered the pitching loss, as he allowed the first three runs, two earned, on three hits in three innings.
Olivet will be back in action Tuesday afternoon when they host Davenport University for a nine-inning game, starting at 4 p.m.
