Baseball team defeated by Haverford, 7-6
For the second time in three games this season, the baseball team lost a one-run decision. Today, the Comets were defeated by Haverford (Pa.) College, 7-6, at the Gene Cusic Classic in Fort Myers, Fla.
FORT MYERS, Fla. – For the second time in three games this season, the Olivet College baseball team lost a one-run decision. Today, the Comets were defeated by Haverford (Pa.) College, 7-6, at the Gene Cusic Classic in Fort Myers, Fla.
Haverford took a 1-0 lead with a run in the first inning. The Comets came back to take a 2-1 lead with a pair of runs in the second inning. The Fords tied the game with a run in the bottom half of the second and regained the lead with a three-run third inning.
Olivet got one run back in the fifth to make the score 5-3. Haverford extended its lead to 7-3 with two runs in the sixth. The Comets mounted a comeback with a run in the seventh and two runs in the ninth. In the seventh, Olivet left the bases loaded.
Offensively, the Comets were held to five hits by five different players. Sophomore Randy Young (Wixom/Walled Lake Western) had a double and drove in two runs. Senior Braydon LaFramboise (Flushing/Mt. Morris) reached base safely in 3-of-5 plate appearances, all three times by walk.
Sophomore starting pitcher Justin Pitt (Imlay City) lasted only two and one-third innings and was charged with the loss. He allowed five runs on seven hits.
Olivet will play a nine-inning game against Kenyon (Ohio) College tomorrow morning at 10 a.m.
