Baseball team falls to Kalamazoo, 7-6

The Olivet College baseball team fell to Kalamazoo College, 7-6, today in the first game of a Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) doubleheader at Woodworth Field in Kalamazoo. With the score tied at 4-4 in the second inning, the second game was suspended because of rain. No official announcement has been made in regards to completing the game.

In the first game, Olivet took a 1-0 lead on a home run by junior Ben Kosmalski (Canton/Plymouth) in the first inning. The Hornets tied the game at 1-1 with a run in their half of the first. They went ahead 2-1 with a run in the third. The Comets made the score 2-2 on back-to-back doubles by sophomore Austin Clark (Ossineke/Alpena) and junior Beau Felix (Hartland) in the top half of the fourth.

Kalamazoo grabbed the lead back with three runs in the home half of the fourth. The Hornets added an insurance run in both the fifth and sixth innings. Olivet got as close as one run by scoring four times in the seventh.

Offensively, the Comets out-hit the Hornets, 12-10. Felix, Kosmalski, junior Braydon LaFramboise (Flushing/Mt. Morris) and senior Matt Smoker (Bronson) each collected two hits. Five different players had one RBI apiece. On the mound, senior Josh Norlock (Warren/Centerline) was the losing pitcher. He threw four innings and allowed five runs on six hits. Freshman Devon Doxey (Climax/Climax-Scotts) tossed two innings in relief and gave up two runs on four hits, while striking out three.
