The Olivet College baseball team fell to Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) rival Albion College, 2-1, in the first game of a doubleheader this afternoon at Frank Joranko Field in Albion. With the scored tied at 4-4 in the bottom of the fifth inning, the second game was suspended by rain.
The start of the first game was delayed for 49 minutes because of the rain. The Britons took a 2-0 lead with a pair of runs in the fourth frame. The Comets got one run back in the sixth inning when senior Ryan Hodges (Swartz Creek) lined a 3-2 pitch over the fence in leftfield.
Offensively, Olivet was limited to just four base hits, including two for Hodges. On the mound, junior Tyler Kelly (Marshall) was the hard luck loser, as he was charged with one earned run off nine Albion hits.
Before the rain came, the Comets scored one run in the first and three more runs in the fourth inning to take a 4-0 lead. The Britons scored four times in the bottom of the fifth and has the bases loaded with two outs at the point of suspension.
The teams will complete the suspended game and play the scheduled doubleheader tomorrow in Olivet, beginning at noon.
