The Olivet College baseball team dropped a 21-5 decision to Heidelberg (Ohio) College this afternoon at the RussMatt Invitational in Port Charlotte, Fla.
The Student Princes scored at least one run in seven different innings, including six runs in the fifth and eighth innings. The Comets scored a run in the first, two more in the third, one in the seventh and one in the eighth.
Olivet was led by junior Brandon Goodman (Portage/Central) and sophomore Matt Smoker (Bronson), who each went 2-for-4 at the plate. Goodman scored two runs, while Smoker drove in two runs. Freshman Calvin Gadwa (Brighton/Hartland) got a hit and scored a run in his only plate appearance. Freshman Ben Kosmalski (Canton/Plymouth) also had a hit and a RBI. On the mound, sophomore Richard Gottardo (Warren/Center Line) was tagged with the loss.
The Comets return to action tomorrow when it plays a doubleheader against Defiance (Ohio) College, beginning at 11 a.m.
