Baseball team splits doubleheader with Clark (Mass.)
The Olivet College baseball team split a doubleheader with Clark (Mass.) University today at the RussMatt Invitational in Port Charlotte, Fla. The Comets won the first game, 15-6, but lost the nightcap, 11-3.

The Olivet College baseball team split a doubleheader with Clark (Mass.) University today at the RussMatt Invitational in Port Charlotte, Fla. The Comets won the first game, 15-6, but lost the nightcap, 11-3.
Olivet started the first game with a nine-run first inning, added three more in second and third innings and never looked back. Clark scored single tallies in first, third, fourth and sixth, and two in the fifth, but it was not enough.
Five Comets collected two hits a piece. Senior Eric Quinn (Port Huron/Northern) had a single and a grand slam home run in the first inning. He also scored a team-high three runs. Junior Rob Swanson (Marshall) had a single and an inside-the-park home run in the second. He drove in five runs. Also collecting two hits were junior Ryan Hodges (Swartz Creek), senior Michael Katlin (Howell) and freshman Braydon LaFramboise (Flushing/Mt. Morris).
On the mound, freshman Brad Beisiegel (Royal Oak) went five innings to earn his first collegiate win. He allowed four earned runs on eight hits. Junior Steven Oginsky (New Lothrop) pitched two innings, allowed an earned run on two hits. He struck out two.
In the nightcap, the Comets fell behind 11-0 after Clark scored three runs in the first, one in the fifth and seven in the sixth. Olivet scored its three runs in the seventh.
Hodges and Katlin finished with two hits a piece. Freshman Jimmy Keenan (Charlotte) drove in a pair of runs. Senior Ed O'Brien (Stockbridge) picked-up the loss, giving up 11 hits, nine runs (six earned). He struck out four and did not walk a batter.
Olivet is back in action for a single nine-inning game against Ohio Wesleyan University at 9 a.m.
