Baseball team splits home twinbill against Hope
The Olivet College baseball team ended its season with a doubleheader split against Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) rival against Hope College this afternoon at the Cutler Athletic Complex in Olivet. After losing the first game, 16-6, the Comets won the second game, 13-1.

The Olivet College baseball team ended its season with a doubleheader split against Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) rival against Hope College this afternoon at the Cutler Athletic Complex in Olivet. After losing the first game, 16-6, the Comets won the second game, 13-1. With the split, Olivet also secures third-place in the final 2008 MIAA standings.
For the doubleheader, senior Michael Katlin (Howell) was 6-for-8 with one home run and six RBI. He also made no errors in 13 chances at second base. Junior Brandon Goodman (Portage/Central) went 4-for-8 with five runs scored, one home run, one double and four RBI. Junior Scott Purdy (Traverse City/West) collected three hits and two RBI. As a team, the Comets made zero errors in 62 chances and posted a .333 batting average.
On the mound, freshman Sean Alexander (Fenton) went six innings and allowed four base hits to earn the win, while sophomore Josh Norlock (Warren/Center Line) pitched a scoreless seventh inning in the nightcap. Senior Dave Pembroke (Bay City/John Glenn) was charged with the loss in game one.
Olivet concluded its season with a 17-23 overall record. The third-place finish is the best for the Comets since 2003 when they were second with a 12-6 record. Hope finishes its season with a 15-25 overall mark and was fourth in the MIAA with a 13-15 record.
