Baseball team sweeps doubleheader with Eastern Mennonite, 10-4 and 5-1
The Olivet College baseball team swept a doubleheader from Eastern Mennonite (Va.) University today in Myrtle Beach, S.C. The Comets (6-1) won by scores of 10-4 and 5-1.

Eastern Mennonite (Va.)
The Olivet College baseball team swept a doubleheader from Eastern Mennonite (Va.) University today in Myrtle Beach, S.C. The Comets (6-1) won by scores of 10-4 and 5-1.
In the first game, senior Chris Shelhart (Rolling Meadows, Ill./St. Viator) was three-for-four with three runs scored and six RBI. He hit an inside-the-park home run and grand slam home run. Junior Michael Katlin (Howell) had two hits and scored two runs. On the mound, junior Ed O'Brien (Stockbridge) earned the win. He pitched six innings, allowing seven hits and four earned runs, while striking out two. Sophomore Steven Oginsky (New Lothrop) pitched a perfect seventh inning and struck out two.
In the nightcap, seniors Todd Driver (Charlotte) and Nick McIntosh (Petoskey) each had two hits. McIntosh and senior B.J. Behnke (Charlotte) collected two RBI a piece. On the mound, freshman Richard Gottardo (Warren/Center Line) was credited with the win. He tossed five and one-third innings and yielded one unearned run. Oginsky finished the game in relief and earned his second save on the season. He struck out four batters.
The Comets wrap-up their Spring Break trip tomorrow with a 1 p.m. game against Wesley (Del.) College.
NOTE: With his two home runs today, Shelhart has tied the Olivet career record for homers with 17. Chris Ploucha also had 17 homers from 1992-96.
