Muskingum (Ohio)
The Olivet College baseball team fell to Muskingum (Ohio) College, 13-4, tonight at the Gene Cusic Classic in Fort Myers, Florida.
Muskingum jumped out to a 2-0 lead after the first inning of play. The Comets (2-5) tied the game at 2-2 with two runs in the third inning. Through seven innings, the Muskies led 5-3. Olivet scored its fourth run and had the game-tying run thrown out at the plate in the top half of the eighth. Muskingum broke the game wide open with eight runs in its half of the eighth inning.
Senior Stan Cieslak (Troy/Avondale) and junior Chris Shelhart (Rolling Meadows, Ill./St. Viator) each went three-for-five at the plate. Cieslak drove in two runs, and four different players scored one run apiece. On the mound, freshman Mark Sherrod (Jackson) suffered the loss after pitching the first six innings. He allowed 11 hits and five runs, while striking out eight batters.
The Comets will continue play at the Gene Cusic Classic tomorrow with a doubleheader against Baldwin-Wallace (Ohio) College, beginning at 10 a.m.
