Baseball Team Loses to Manchester (Ind.) College, 9-1 and 2-0
The Olivet College baseball team dropped a pair of non-league games at Manchester (Ind.) College today. The Fighting Comets lost the first game, 9-1, and fell in the second game, 2-0. With the losses, Olivet snaps its school record 12-game win streak.

N. MANCHESTER, Ind. -- The Olivet College baseball team dropped a pair of non-league games at Manchester (Ind.) College today. The Fighting Comets lost the first game, 9-1, and fell in the second game, 2-0. With the losses, Olivet snaps its school record 12-game win streak.
In the opener, Manchester opened the scoring with two runs in the first inning. The Comets (18-14 overall) scored their run in the second inning on a single by senior first baseman James Virden (Branch/Mason County Central High School). The Spartans then put the game away with a six-run fifth inning.
Ryan Wolfe from Manchester kept the Comet bats silent as he allowed the base hit by Virden and a double by junior Joe Richards (Galesburg Augusta High School) in the fourth. Sophomore Russ Kimball (National City/Tawas High School) suffered the loss on the mound. He went the distance and allowed nine base hits and nine earned runs.
In the second game, Manchester tallied single runs in both the second and third innings and hung on for the win. Olivet had opportunities to score runs, leaving five runners on base.
Virden was two-for-three with a single and a double. Freshman Stan Cieslak (Troy Avondale High School) also had a double. Freshman Ryan Merchant (South Lyon High School) picked-up the loss. He pitched six innings, allowing eight hits and striking out four batters.
Olivet will travel to play Albion College in a three-game Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association series on Thursday and Friday, May 1-2. The doubleheader will start on Thursday afternoon at 1 p.m., and the single game will begin on Friday afternoon at 4 p.m.
