Bio

Geoff Henson is his 24th year on the athletic staff at The University of Olivet in 2025-26. On July 28, 2022, he was promoted to the title of Assistant Athletic Director for Sports Information and Communications. Henson is the longest-tenued member of the UOlivet athletic staff and one of the longest-tenured staff member at the university. 

Prior to joining the Olivet staff in October 2002, Henson was an assitant SID in the sports information office at Baldwin Wallace University (BW) from May 2001 to October 2002. He earned a bachelor’s of arts degree in business administration from BW in 2001. During his time as an undergraduate, Henson worked as a student assistant in the sports information office for four years.

At UOlivet, Henson was instrumental bringing the athletics website under the PrestoSports platform. The website has seen three revisions since the site was initially launched in summer 2010. All of the content on the website is added by him. In addition, Henson is responsible for the athletic social media accounts (X, Facebook, Instagram). He also oversees a group of student workers every year who assist with the compilation of statistics and photography at home events. 

Henson is an active member of the College Sports Communicators (CSC) -- formerly known as College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). He has been a member of the Academic All-America® committee since 2008. On the committee, Henson presently serves as the national coordinator for the NCAA Division III/NAIA Men's Swimming & Diving and Baseball teams. Before being assigned those sports, Henson was a national coordinator and district coordinator for the NCAA Division III/NAIA Men's Basketball/Track & Field and Cross Country teams. Prior to that, Henson represented CSC on both the job seeker’s and technology committees. 

During his time at Olivet, two of Henson's nominations have earned CSC Academic All-America Team Member of the Year honors. Those were for swimmer Kellen Beckwith for the College Division Men's At-Large team in 2011 and punter Ryan Anderson for the NCAA Division III Football team in 2016. In addition, 26 student-athletes have combined to earn 33 Academic All-America citations. Also, close to 150 student-athletes have received around 200 total Academic All-District awards.

While at Olivet, Henson served as the on-site media coordinator for the 2021 NCAA Division III Women's Golf Championships at Forest Akers West Golf Course in East Lansing, the 2022 NCAA Division III Men's and Women's Cross Country Championships at Forest Akers Golf Course in East Lansing, and the 2022, 2023, 2024 and 2025 NCAA Women's Bowling Regional at Royal Scot Golf & Bow in Lansing.

In May 2025, he was a part of the media relations team for the NCAA DIvision III Baseball World Series at Classic Park in Eastllake, Ohio. Henson served as official scorer six games, including game one of the championship series. In addition, he has served as a voter for the D3hoops.com Top 25 men's basketball poll. Henson has also been a voter for numerous All-American and All-Region teams for NCAA Division III football and basketball. He has also represented the MIAA on the selection commitee for the Associated Press Division III All-America Football teams.

Henson has also served as an official scorekeeper for the Michigan High School Athletic Association (MHSAA) softball semifinals and finals every year since 2003. Henson has also been one of the official statistians for the MHSAA volleyball semifinals and finals, football finals, and girls and boys basketball semifinals and finals. In his early years at Olivet, he was the official scorer for the Battle Creek Yankees, a minor league baseball team, during the summer of 2003 and 2004. Henson has also filled in as the official scorer for the Lansing Lugnuts, a minor league baseball team, as well as the Kalamazoo Kings, an independent baseball team.

Henson lives in Charlotte. He developed his love of sports from his father, Jerry, who was a sports writer for the Chronicle-Telegram in Elyria, Ohio. He is one of four children in his family. Henson has a twin sister, Kim, and two older brothers, Andy and Tim. He is the proud uncle to his two nephews, George and Ben, and niece, Karena. Henson does his job in memory of his late mother, Rose Marie, who passed away in September 2013 after battling brain cancer.
