Olivet College’s Jenna Mayle (Ionia) and Jalen Weaver (Albion) have been named to the 2014 Capital One Academic All-District VI Cross Country/Track and Field teams, as selected by CoSIDA.
OLIVET, Mich. – Olivet College’s Jenna Mayle (Ionia) and Jalen Weaver (Albion) have been named to the 2014 Capital One Academic All-District VI Cross Country/Track and Field teams, as selected by College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). Both are now eligible to earn Capital One Academic All-America honors, which will be announced next month.
Mayle, who graduated with a perfect 4.0 grade point average in visual arts, is the school outdoor record holder in the 400-meter hurdles (1:08.39) and ran the second leg of the school-record 4x400-meter relay (4:11.12). She is the indoor school-record holder in the 600-meter run (1:47.18) and 800-meter run (2:28.20), and part of the 4x400-meter relay (4:15.61).
At the 2014 Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) Field Day, Mayle placed sixth in the 400-meter hurdles. She also played soccer for the Comets, and was both an Academic All-America® third-team and Academic All-District VI first-team selection.
While at Olivet, Mayle participated in art alliance and was the juror’s choice at the Michigan Small College’s Art Exhibition. She is a four-time MIAA Academic Honor Roll selection and was on the Olivet President’s List every semester.
Weaver, who carries a 3.8436 GPA in exercise science, was the first-ever Olivet student-athlete to qualify for the NCAA DIII Indoor Track & Field Championships. He competed in the 800-meter run but failed to make the finals.
At the 2014 MIAA Field Day, Weaver won the 800-meter run by more than one second and ran the anchor leg of the second-place 4x400-meter relay to earn All-MIAA honors. In addition, he holds the indoor and outdoor school records in the 800-meter at 1:53.50 (indoors) and 1:53.13 (outdoors). Weaver is a three-time MIAA Academic Honor Roll recipient and has been on the Olivet President’s or Dean’s List every semester.
The Academic All-District teams include the student-athletes listed on the following pages and are divided into eight geographic districts across the United States and Canada. Olivet is in District VI, which includes schools in Michigan, Minnesota and Wisconsin. This is the third year of the expanded Academic All-America® program as CoSIDA moved from recognizing a University Division (Division I) and a College Division (all non-Division I) and has doubled the number of scholar-athletes honored.
The expanded teams include NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II and NCAA Division III participants, while the College Division Academic All-America® Team combines NAIA, Canadian and two-year schools.
