UOlivet tennis sweeps MIAA Athlete of the Week awards
FARMINGTON HILLS, Mich. – The University of Olivet tennis team has swept the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) Athlete of the Week awards. Freshman Amelia Girard is the women's honoree, and sophomore Alex Jonas is the men's honoree.
Girard split her two singles and doubles matches last week. At No. 2 singles and No. 1 doubles, she fell to her opponents from Freed-Hardeman (Tenn.) University. Against Berea (Ky.) College, Girard then teamed with sophomore Rylee Lewis for a 6-0 win at No. 1 doubles and due to an illness, Girard bumped up to No. 1 singles and won 6-4, 6-3.
Jonas also had a 2-2 combined record in singles and doubles play last week. At No. 2 singles and No. 1 doubles, he lost to Freed-Hardeman. Against Berea, Jonas and sophomore Lucas Anderson posted a 6-3 win at No. 1 doubles, and did not lose any games in a 6-0, 6-0 win at No. 2 singles.
The Comets are back in action Saturday when they host the University of Saint Francis (Ind.) at 1 p.m.
