Olivet College and Greater Lansing Sports Authority to host Pre-National Cross Country Meet
OLIVET, Mich. – Olivet College along with the Greater Lansing Sports Authority (GLSA) will host the 2022 Pre-National Cross Country Meet Saturday, October 1 at the Forest Akers East Golf Course in East Lansing. Schools from across the country will descend on East Lansing to preview the course for the 2022 NCAA Division III National Men’s and Women’s Cross Country Championships November 19. Olivet and GLSA are also co-hosting the national championships.
OLIVET, Mich. – Olivet College along with the Greater Lansing Sports Authority (GLSA) will host the 2022 Pre-National Cross Country Meet Saturday, October 1 at the Forest Akers East Golf Course in East Lansing.
Schools from across the country will descend on East Lansing to preview the course for the 2022 NCAA Division III National Men's and Women's Cross Country Championships November 19. Olivet and GLSA are also co-hosting the national championships.
"We are very excited to host the Pre-National cross country meet alongside the Greater Lansing Sports Authority," said Olivet head cross country and track & field coach Karen Lutzke. "Forest Akers East Golf Course has been the home of many cross country meets over the years. The course will not only be great for the runners but also for spectators who want to come and watch."
As of this writing, there are 36 men's and 37 women's programs entered in the event. The women's varsity 6K race will start at 10:30 a.m., followed by the men's 8K race at 11:15 a.m. Open races will follow, with the women at 12 p.m. and men at 12:45 p.m.
In the men's field, there are 11 schools ranked in the most recent United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association NCAA Division III Coaches Poll. Those include No. 2 Massachusetts Institute of Technology, No. 3 University of Wis.-La Crosse, No. 5 North Central (Ill.) College and No. 8 University of Wis.-Whitewater. Also entered are Olivet and the seven other Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) schools.
In the women's field, there are nine schools ranked in the most recent USTFCCCA NCAA Division III Coaches Poll. They include No. 3 University of Chicago (Ill.), No. 7 Massachusetts Institute of Technology and No. 9 Wis.-La Crosse. Olivet along with the remaining eight MIAA schools are also set to compete.
