Ten Olivet College athletic teams earn MIAA Team GPA award

FREELAND, Mich. – Ten Olivet College athletic teams are recipients of the 2021-22 Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) Team GPA award. This award is presented annually to the conference teams who post a 3.30 or higher cumulative grade point average for the entire academic year.

Each of Olivet's 10 women's sports have earned the honor. The tennis team had Olivet's highest GPA at 3.77, which ranks third of all 106 MIAA teams honored. The cross country team posted a 3.64 GPA, followed by golf at 3.60 and indoor and outdoor track & field teams at 3.57. The swimming and diving team also had a 3.57 GPA. The basketball team posted a 3.44 GPA, followed by volleyball at 3.40 and soccer at 3.36.

OLIVET NOTES:

• The MIAA Team GPA award was presented for the first time in 1998-99. It is the first time in school history which all of Olivet's women's sports have earned the MIAA Team GPA award in the same year.
• The women's golf team has received the award the most times of any Olivet athletic team at 18, including 15 straight years.
• The women's swimming & diving team has received the award 17 times.
• The women's tennis team is the recipient of this award for a 12th straight academic year, and 15 times overall.
• The women's outdoor track & field team is next with 14 MIAA Team GPA awards.
• The women's cross country and softball teams have both earned this honor 13 times.
• The women's basketball team received the MIAA Team GPA award for the 12th time, posting its highest GPA in school history this year.
• The women's soccer and women's volleyball teams have earned this award 11 times. The soccer has a streak of 11 straight years, while volleyball's streak is at five years.
• The women's indoor track & field team has received the honor six of the seven years which the MIAA has sponsored the sport.
