FREELAND, Mich. – Six Olivet College student-athletes have been named to the 2020 Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) Indoor Track & Field Teams. Individual event winners and all members of winning relays at the MIAA Championships are recognized with All-MIAA honors.
Senior Noah Bailey won the MIAA title in the long jump with a school-record mark of 23 feet, 1/2 inch. The mark helped the Comets finish 1-2 in the long jump, as he bested his teammate by 1/2 inch.
"Noah made the long jump competition exciting," said Olivet head coach Karen Lutzke. "He waited until his last jump to retake first place to help the team finish in first- and second-place. This honor is his first for long jump, as Noah earned All-MIAA honors in the 4x400-meter relay and triple jump last year."
The 4x400-meter relay team of freshman Jordon Brown, freshman William Reed, junior Tyler Peck and sophomore Kyle McDowell had the fastest time at 3:24.49.
"The 4x4 relay was another exciting event for the Comets," said Lutzke. "The four guys did a great job, helping Olivet win the race for the second year in a row. Jordon got us out in the lead and we kept it the entire race, as we were able to hold off the second- and third-place schools."
For the women, sophomore Lillian Albaugh repeated as MIAA champion in the shot put. Her mark of 42 feet, 9-3/4 inches was a season-best.
"Lillie loves competing and it showed on Saturday," said Lutzke. "Coach AJ has been working this year on changing her technique to spin and it has not been easy for Lillie. Lillie was able put all the pieces together at the championships and had some big throws. She is going to continue to get better as she masters the spin."
