Comets of the Week - March 3, 2025
The Female Comet of the Week is senior London Eldridge, of Stanton, and graduate of Central Montcalm High School. At the 2025 MIAA Indoor Track & Field Championships, Eldridge finished second in the 60-meter hurdles and fifth in the 400-meter dash. Her time in the hurdles, 9.36 seconds, is the second-fastest in UOlivet history. Eldridge also ran a leg of the third-place 4x400-meter relay, which broke the UOlivet indoor record with a time of 4:12.57.
The Co-Male Comet of the Week is sophomore Owen Fremeau, of Jackson, and graduate of Western High School. Fremeau won the shot put and weight throw at the MIAA Indoor Track & Field Championships. He broke UOlivet and MIAA championship records in both events – 55 feet and 7-1/2 inches in the shot put and 61 feet and 11-1/2 inches in the weight throw. They are also 10th on the NCAA Division III Performance List.
The Co-Male Comet of the Week is senior Tyler Herrema, of Grandville, and graduate of Grandville High School. Herrema battled his way to a 4-1 record and second-place finish in the 149-pound bracket at the NCAA Division III Region V Tournament to a trip to the NCAA DIII National Championships. He began the tournament with three bonus-point wins – 9-1, 17-1 and 12-4 – before eking out a 4-1 overtime win in the semifinals. Herrema lost the championship match, 17-2, to the top seeded wrestler.
Other notable performances this week:
- Benyamin Kamali – runner-up at 125 pounds, qualified for the NCAA DIII Wrestling Championships
- Rylee Lewis – won at No. 1 singles and No. 1 doubles in women’s tennis team’s 7-0 win over Grace Christian
- Emily Norkowski – third in 60-meter hurdles, fifth in long jump, eighth in triple jump and ran leg of third-place 4x400-meter relay at MIAA Indoor Track & Field Championships
- Dylan Phelps – third-place at 141 pounds, qualified for the NCAA DIII Wrestling Championships
