Comets of the Week - November 25, 2024

The Female Comet of the Week is senior Lily Connelly, of Grant Twp., and graduate of Crosswell-Lexington High School. Connelly averaged 13 points and 9.5 points in helping the women’s basketball team split two games at the Hope College Tournament. She had eight points and three rebounds in the first game against nationally ranked Carroll (Wis.) University. Connelly followed that with 18 points and 16 rebounds in a win over Anderson (Ind.) University. For the two games, she made 9-of-20 baskets and 7-of-8 free throws, while dishing out nine assists and recording seven steals.

The Male Comet of the Week is senior Benyamin Kamali, of Lansing, and graduate of Detroit Catholic Central High School. Kamali posted a 4-0 record to lead the wrestling team to a 3-1 record at its own Comet Duals. He began the day with a 14-4 major decision over the No. 2 regionally ranked wrestler from Cornell (Iowa) College. Kamali then had back-to-back technical falls, 21-6 and 17-2, over wrestlers from King’s (Pa.) College and Augsburg (Minn.) University. He ended the day with an 18-8 major decision over the No. 5 regionally ranked wrestler from John Carroll (Ohio) University.
