Comets of the Week - January 6, 2025

The Female Comet of the Week is senior Lily Connelly, of Grant Twp., and graduate of Crosswell-Lexington High School. Over the last six games during the holiday break, Connelly posted averages of 15.8 points, 7.5 rebounds, 6.8 assists and 4.0 steals. She made 36-of-87 baskets (41.4 percent), including 9-of-24 (37.5 percent) from behind the arc, and 14-of-20 free throws (70 percent) for her 95 total points. Connelly’s best game was 24 points and 16 rebounds at Denison (Ohio) University. She also had 10 points, seven rebounds, eight assists, five assists and five steals in a 61-58 win over Kalamazoo College.

The Male Comet of the Week is freshman Porter Kretschman, of Grand Rapids, and graduate of Coopersville High School. Over the four holiday break games, Kretschman averaged 12.3 points and 8.3 rebounds. In addition, he posted a 54.3 field goal percentage (19-of-35) and 60.0 free throw percentage (9-of-15), while dishing out nine assists and making nine steals. Kretschman posted identical double-doubles of 16 points and 10 rebounds against DePauw (Ind.) University and Denison (Ohio) University.
