Dean Trailways Comets of the Week - March 18, 2024
The Dean Trailways Co-Male Comet of the Week is sophomore Bryan Carney, of Grosse Pointe Woods, and graduate of Grosse Pointe North High School. Carney pitched eight innings to earn the win and help the baseball team defeat University of Hartford (Conn.), 9-3. He allowed one earned run on six hits, while striking out 15 batters. The 15 strikeouts are the most by an Olivet pitcher since 2003.
The Dean Trailways Co-Male Comet of the Week is junior Connor Jewell, of Swartz Creek, and graduate of Swartz Creek High School. Jewell shot a one-over par 73 to earn medalist honors at the Heidelberg Snowball’s Chance Invitational, played on a cold and blustery day at the Mohawk Golf & Country Club in Tiffin, Ohio. His round was 37 on the front nine and 36 on the back nine.
The Dean Trailways Female Comet of the Week is freshman Rylee Lewis, of Ovid, and graduate of Ovid-Elsie High School. During the women’s tennis team’s spring break trip to Virginia, Lewis posted a 3-0 record at No. 2 singles. She defeated Hannah Huffman from Ferrum (6-4, 6-4), Noura Elkhansa from Randolph in three sets (6-7, 6-4, 1-0 (7)) and Emily Wyline from Bridgewater (6-2, 5-7, 1-0 (6)). Lewis also teamed with Kayden Alli for a win at No. 1 doubles – 8-2 over Huffman and Gabby Mendoza from Ferrum.
