Dean Trailways Comets of the Week - May 7, 2023
The Dean Trailways Male Comet of the Week is senior Jordon Brown, of Niles, and graduate of Niles High School. Brown won the 200- and 400-meter dashes at the 2023 Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) Field Day. His times, 21.51 seconds in the 200 and 47.30 seconds in the 400, broke the school record, while the 400 time also broke the MIAA Championships record. Brown also finished second in the long jump (23 feet) and ran legs of the sixth-place 4x100- and fourth-place 4x400-meter relays.
The Dean Trailways Female Comet of the Week is sophomore Emily Norkowski, of Fife Lake, and graduate of Forest Area High School. Norkowski won the triple jump at the 2023 MIAA Field Day. Her winning mark (34 feet, 11 inches) was a school record. She finished second in the 100-meter hurdles (15.98) and seventh in the long jump (15 feet, 7 inches). Norkowski also ran a leg of the second-place 4x400-meter relay, which broke the school record with a time of 4:08.95, and fifth-place 4x100-meter relay (50.75) which just missed the school record by three-hundredths of a second.
These Comets of the Week will be likely the last for the 2022-23 academic year.
