Dean Trailways Comets of the Week - February 13, 2023
The Dean Trailways Male Comet of the Week is the distance medley relay team of senior Jordon Brown, of Niles, and graduate of Niles High School; junior Chris Davis, of Howell, and graduate of Fowlerville High School; junior Hayden Germain, of Pewamo, and graduate of Pewamo-Westphalia High School; and senior Chase Mendham, of Coopersville, and graduate of Coopersville High School. At the Grand Valley State University “Big” Meet, the quartet broke the school record in the event with a time of 10:01.63. The time converts to 10:09.82 due to the size of GVSU’s track. Mendham led off the relay, followed by Brown, Germain and Davis.
Other notable male performers last week were Robert Davids (wrestling), Jerry Hall (wrestling), Hunter Hillard (track & field) and Zach Potter (wrestling).
The Dean Trailways Female Comet of the Week is senior Rachel Swartz, of Battle Creek, and graduate of Pennfield High School. Swartz became Olivet’s all-time leader for blocked shots in the women’s basketball team’s 81-48 win over Saint Mary’s (Ind.) College. She finished the game with six blocks, which ties for the second-most for a game in school history. Entering her final collegiate game this Saturday, Swartz has 114 career blocks.
