Dean Trailways Female Comets of the Week - May 9, 2022
The Dean Trailways Co-Female Comet of the Week is senior Lillian Albaugh, of Shepherd, and graduate of Farwell High School. With a mark of 42 feet, Albaugh won the shot put at the 2022 Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) Field Day. With that performance, she captured the league title in the shot put at every possible MIAA Track and Field Championships during her career – 2019, 2021 and 2022 outdoors and 2019, 2020, 2021, 2022 indoors. In addition, Albaugh scored points for Olivet in the discus throw, finishing fourth (114 feet, 10 inches).
The Dean Trailways Co-Female Comet of the Week is junior Gabby Jolliff, of Fowlerville, and graduate of Fowlerville High School. With a 10 feet, 2 inch clearance, Jolliff was first in the pole vault at the 2022 MIAA Field Day. She and Kyria Gowman from Hope both cleared the top mark. However, the judges’ decision handed the win to Joliff. After passing until the bar reached 9 feet, 6-1/4 inches, Jolliff was able to get over the bar on her first attempt at the first three heights, while Gowman needed three tries to clear 9 feet, 6-1/4 inches and two tries to clear 9 feet, 10 inches. Jolliff also finished sixth in the high jump with a personal-best clearance of 4 feet, 10-1/4 inches.
