Dean Trailways Comets of the Week - March 15, 2021
This week’s Dean Trailways Female Comet of the Week is junior Lillian Albaugh, of Shepherd, and graduate of Farwell High School. Albaugh finished in fourth-place in the shot put at the 2021 Division III Elite Indoor Championships. Her mark of 41 feet, 9-1/4 inches was achieved on her third attempt.
This week’s Dean Trailways Co-Male Comet of the Week is junior Kyle McDowell, of Kalkaska, and graduate of Kalkaska High School. McDowell placed fourth in the 400-meter dash with a school-record time of 49.14 seconds at the 2021 NCAA Division III Elite Indoor Championships. He also ran the anchor leg of the fifth-place 4x400-meter relay, which broke the school record with a time of 3:21.72.
This week’s Dean Trailways Co-Male Comet of the Week is sophomore Takato Timmerman, of Yokosuka, Japan, and graduate of Poway (Calif.) High School. Timmerman recorded top-eight finishes in each of his three individual events at the 2021 Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association Championships. He was third in the 200-yard breaststroke (2:06.08), fourth in the 100-yard breaststroke (57.16) and seventh in the 50-yard freestyle (21.29). His prelim time in the 100 breast, 56.38, shattered the school record, while his prelim time in the 50 free, 21.18, was the fifth-fastest in school history.
This week’s Dean Trailways Co-Male Comet of the Week is sophomore Zach Wells, of Sterling Heights, and graduate of Henry Ford High School. Unseeded at 174 pounds, Wells finished in fourth-place at the 2021 National Wrestling Coaches Association Division III Championships. After losing a close 4-3 decision in his first match to the No. 3 seed, Wells won five straight matches to reach the third-place match. Four of his five wins were minor decisions (9-2, 12-5, 8-7 and 10-5), and the fifth was a first-period pin (2:10). He lost the third-place match, 8-3, to the same opponent from the first round.
