Dean Trailways Comets of the Week - February 1, 2021
This week’s Dean Trailways Female Comet of the Week is freshman Jennifer Mann, of Orange, California, and graduate of Villa Park High School. At the double dual meet against Albion and Hope colleges, Mann won the 200-yard freestyle in the third-fastest time in school history at 1:57.44. She also swam in an exhibition heat of the 400-yard individual medley and recorded the second-quickest time in school history at 4:49.80. The next day in Olivet’s home dual meet against Hillsdale College, Mann was first in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:10.71), and second in the 200-yard breaststroke (2:30.96) and 200-yard individual medley (2:19.13).
This week’s Dean Trailways Male Comet of the Week is sophomore Dominick Wilson, of Portage, and graduate of Portage Central High School. Wilson captured the 285-pound title at the MIAA Individual Championships, hosted by the Comets and inside the Cutler Event Center in Olivet. In the opening round of pool play, he defeated Isaiah Espinosa from Adrian College, 2-0. Espinosa is currently the No. 4-ranked heavyweight in the Intermat poll. In the second pool play match, Wilson beat Charlie Prescott from Alma, 4-0, and then pinned Andrew Captain from Trine in one minute and 32 seconds in his third pool play match. Wilson earned the default win over a teammate in the championship bout.
