Bio
Vern Ruhle, many times one moment in life forges a person’s
future. Your moment came when you pitched a one hitter for Olivet
College against Alma College while a Detroit Tiger baseball scout
was sitting in the stands. No other scout saw you play, but what
that Detroit scout saw was enough. The rest is history. You have
become a successful major league pitcher and are the only Olivet
College baseball player to make the major leagues during its long
history.
It all started for you at Olivet. Since that start Vern, you have
done many things to make Olivet proud. Your graduation ceremonies
were held at home plate in Tiger Stadium. You were elected top
Tiger rookie by the Detroit Sports Broadcasters Association and
when the Houston Astros won the National League East Pennant in
1981 you were credited with being the key member of the Astros
pitching staff by posting a 12 and 4 record when the Astros needed
it most during the final weeks of the season.
You have come through for Olivet College off the athletic field.
You have been a strong supporter of Olivet College, the
college’s Baseball program, and your fraternity, Kappa Sigma
Alpha.
In honor of your accomplishments on and off the athletic field,
Olivet College is proud to induct you into the Olivet College
Athletic Hall of Fame on this 15th day of October, 1983.
