Cross country teams participate in Auto Owners Spartan Invitational
The Olivet College men’s and women’s cross country teams ran today at the 2017 Auto Owners Spartan Invitational, hosted by Michigan State University at the Forest Acres East Golf Course in East Lansing. The meet featured schools from all NCAA levels as well as NAIA and NJCAA institutions.

EAST LANSING, Mich. – The Olivet College men's and women's cross country teams ran today at the 2017 Auto Owners Spartan Invitational, hosted by Michigan State University at the Forest Acres East Golf Course in East Lansing. The meet featured schools from all NCAA levels as well as NAIA and NJCAA institutions.
THE BASICS
Location: Forest Acres East Golf Course; East Lansing, Mich.
FOR THE COMET MEN (8K RUN)
- Senior Bruce Baker placed 33rd of 233 runners with a time of 26:14.2.
- Junior Mark Smith was the next at 28:08.4.
- Sophomore James Thurman completed the race in 30:58.7.
- Sophomores Justin Maidlow and Ethan Barrett finished in 35:17.2 and 36:47.5, respectively.
FOR THE COMET WOMEN (6K RUN)
- Senior Nicole Zerfas was the first Olivet runner to cross the finish line with a time of 26:58.5.
- Senior Abigail Gaines was not far behind at 27:07.2.
- Junior Nicole Gilbert finished in 28:14.0.
- Junior Jessica Taylor had a time of 28:59.9.
- Freshman Maisie Baker posted a time of 29:47.6.

- Olivet will compete at the 2017 Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association Jamboree next Saturday, Sept. 23, at the West Ottawa Golf Course in Holland.
